give of thy sons to bear the message glorious

the last 2 posts on al mohler’s blog (here and here) are a good reminder for me of how important it is to raise boys to be men. it is  humbling as we look forward to schaeffer’s arrival that the helpless little baby we hope to hold in our arms will one day be called upon, Lord willing, to lead in his church (or lead a church) and lead his family b/c that’s what God intended men to do – lead. as dr. mohler alludes to in his articles, the fact that men aren’t signing up or showing up for college isn’t nearly as detrimental as some of the other things for which they won’t be “signing up” or responsibilities for which they won’t be “showing up.”

romans 10.14 comes to mind:
how then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? and how are they to hear without someone preaching?”

who’s going to do the preaching??????
