new post and new purpose

our blog was hacked a long while back and quite frankly we haven’t had time to restore the settings, etc. i suppose as part of my “nesting” i finally have taken the time to fix it. i’ve gone back and forth about discontinuing it, but after evaluating the purpose of it, i have decided to continue but w/ a new vision for it. before, the blog was mainly for out-of-town family and friends to keep up w/ the kids as they grow and our general goings on as a family.

i’ve decided the blog can still serve our family out of town, but can serve a greater purpose in the future for our children. this past summer i read “what is a family?” by edith schaeffer.  in keeping w/ her artsy descriptiveness, she defines the family in terms i love:

“The family: It is an ever-changing mobile of life… a center for the formation of human relationships… a perpetual relayer of truth… a museum of memories… all of these and much more.”

i wanted to use her idea of the family being a perpetual relayer of truth and a museum of memories as the new purpose of our blog. i am not the greatest record keeper but this is a way i can leave some memories for our children…memories of their growth and development and most of all, memories of God’s abundant grace in giving our family so much better than we deserve through each day, each week, each month and each year.

so as i relaunch our blog with our kids in mind, i want to post psalm 16 as a reminder of God’s goodness to us these past 7 1/2 years when matt and i first covenanted together to establish our home for God’s glory.

16:1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.”
As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
in whom is all my delight. [2]
The sorrows of those who run after [3] another god shall multiply;
their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
or take their names on my lips.
The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me. [4]
I have set the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being [5] rejoices;
my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
or let your holy one see corruption. [6]
11 You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
